I switched from ChatGPT to Claude in 30 minutes flat
How to make Claude feel like it already knows you
I spent probably like 47 hours training ChatGPT to understand how I work. My tone, my projects, my pet peeves about AI-sounding output. Then I opened Claude for the first time and realized I'd have to do all of it again.
Except I didn’t.
Someone posted a dead-simple migration process on LinkedIn that took me from "brand new Claude user" to "Claude knows me better than ChatGPT ever did" in about half an hour. And the trick wasn’t some fancy API integration. It was five markdown files.
Here's the full breakdown. Why people are switching in the first place
ChatGPT is great at a lot of things. But power users keep hitting the same wall: you can’t tell it how to behave permanently. Every conversation starts from zero. You explain your preferences, your writing voice, your context. Again. And again.
Claude handles this differently. You can drop files into a workspace folder, and Claude reads them at the start of every conversation. Your writing style, your business context, your rules for what "good output" looks like. All of it persists without you repeating yourself.
That's the real reason people switch. Not because Claude is smarter. Because Claude remembers.
How Jennifer Aniston’s LolaVie brand grew sales 40% with CTV ads

For its first CTV campaign, Jennifer Aniston’s DTC haircare brand LolaVie had a few non-negotiables. The campaign had to be simple. It had to demonstrate measurable impact. And it had to be full-funnel.
LolaVie used Roku Ads Manager to test and optimize creatives — reaching millions of potential customers at all stages of their purchase journeys. Roku Ads Manager helped the brand convey LolaVie’s playful voice while helping drive omnichannel sales across both ecommerce and retail touchpoints.
The campaign included an Action Ad overlay that let viewers shop directly from their TVs by clicking OK on their Roku remote. This guided them to the website to buy LolaVie products.

Step 1: Export your ChatGPT data
Open ChatGPT. Go to Settings, then Data Controls, then Export Data. Confirm the export.
You'll get an email with a download link. Two things to know: the export can take up to 24 hours to process, and the download link expires after 24 hours too. So grab it the moment you see that email.
Step 2: Install Claude
Head to claude.ai/download and install the desktop app. Pick Opus 4.6 as your model. This is the most capable version and where Claude actually shines for deep, context-rich work.
Step 3: Set up your workspace
Open the Cowork tab inside Claude and select a folder on your machine. This is where the real shift happens. Claude can read local files and use them as persistent context for every conversation you start.
Step 4: Build your context files
This is the part that changes everything. You're going to create a set of .md files that turn Claude into an assistant that actually understands you from the first message.
my-context.md — Your exported ChatGPT data, cleaned up and reformatted. This gives Claude instant access to everything you've already built with another AI.
about-me.md — Who you are. What you do. Your role, your goals, the background that shapes every conversation.
voice-profile.md — How you write. What tone you prefer. What makes you cringe in AI output. The more specific you get here, the better Claude performs.
anti-ai-style.md — Rules to make sure Claude never sounds like generic AI slop. Think of this as your quality filter. List the exact phrases, patterns, and structures you want avoided.
Step 5: Start every conversation the right way
One prompt ties it all together. Every time you start a new conversation with Claude, open with:
"Read my files. Ask me questions before you start."
This single line forces Claude to pull in all your context files and clarify anything it needs before jumping into the task. No more generic responses. no more re-explaining who you are every single time.

Why this actually works
Most people treat AI assistants like search engines. Type a question, get an answer, move on. But this approach treats Claude more like a colleague you've already onboarded.
By giving it persistent context about who you are, how you think, and how you communicate, every interaction starts from understanding instead of zero.
Would you rather brief a new freelancer from scratch every Monday, or work with someone who already knows your business, your voice, and your standards? That's the difference these context files make.
Tips to get more out of this setup
Keep your .md files updated. As your work evolves, update your context files. Claude picks up changes automatically next time you reference them.
Be brutally specific in your anti-ai-style file. "Don't sound like AI" is useless. List the exact phrases and patterns you hate. The word "delve." Sentences that start with "In today's rapidly evolving..." Bullet points that all start with action verbs. Whatever bothers you, write it down.
Create voice profiles for different contexts. You write differently in emails than in blog posts than in Slack messages. Consider separate voice files for each use case.
Start small. You dont need all four files on day one. Begin with about-me.md and the anti-AI-style rules. Layer in the rest as you get comfortable.
The bottom line
You can migrate from ChatGPT to Claude in about 30 minutes
The real power isnt the model. It's the persistent context files.
Five markdown files turn Claude from a stranger into a colleague
One prompt ("Read my files. Ask me questions before you start.") makes every conversation start from understanding
Your action step for this week: Export your ChatGPT data today. Even if you dont switch to Claude right away, having that export ready means you can make the jump whenever you want.
